Shufflebotham Stores 138 Alcester Road corner of Woodbridge Rd Moseley now Cafephilia Coffee Bar
This impressive building, originally with an ornate dome (as seen in my panting) was built in 1893 as Moseley House. However, it was most fondly remembered, from 1907 onwards, as the premises of Shufflebotham's, a high-class and well-respected establishment selling stores, grocery &
provisions. Mr Shufflebotham had a fleet of delivery vehicles, plus grocer boys on bikes with wicker baskets on the front. It, could be said it was one of the most high-class grocers in Birmingham until it closed in 1972.
Our Lady is out with her friends out shopping at Shufflebotham’s and how nice their orders will be delivered by the store, now they’re off to do more shopping afterwards the ladies will be getting a taxi to go off for a meal to catch up with girly gossip.
